Lanxess responds to the demand for sustainable solutions for microbial control in the Asia Pacific region

2024-09-30

Qingdao, August 27, 2024 - Amid the growing demand for sustainable microbial control solutions in the Asia-Pacific region, German specialty chemicals manufacturer LANXESS has launched a series of innovative products to meet the urgent need for environmentally friendly solutions in several industries, including green cities, coatings, water treatment and Marine pollution prevention. As one of the world's leading suppliers of antiseptic disinfectants, LANXESS has significant advantages in the field of microbial control.

"Our products are dedicated to protecting materials from contamination by microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi and algae," says Gu Qinfeng, Greater China Head of LANXess's Material Protection Products Business Unit (MPP). "Our comprehensive product portfolio allows us to develop customized solutions that meet high regulatory requirements. These solutions are more friendly to people and the environment and offer a safer alternative to traditional chemical solutions."

Key products: Preventol® B2, Sea-Nine® 211N, and Preventol® O Extra

Preventol® B2 is undoubtedly one of the most prominent products among the many PreventoL ® B2 products. This product is based on LANXESS's long-term technical accumulation of plant root growth control, and is the latest generation of LANXESS root inhibitor, which has been successfully adopted by mainstream coil manufacturers as a cutting-edge solution for green gardens and urban landscapes. As a powerful root inhibitor, Preventol® B2 contributes to the development of green cities. This not only promotes energy conservation, but also contributes to environmental well-being. The product reflects LANXESS's commitment to a sustainable urban environment.

Sea-Nine® 211N is a highly effective Marine antifouling agent that prevents the adhesion and growth of biological contaminants on hull and other underwater surfaces. Its active ingredient DCOIT has excellent broad-spectrum antibacterial activity, especially against soft fouling organisms such as bacterial mucus and algae. Compared with traditional antifouling agents, this active ingredient degrades faster in the natural environment. Traditional antifouling agents such as organotin, which are completely banned for their long-term accumulation in their environment and cause Marine organisms to mutate, Sea-Nine® 211N does not cause bioaccumulation in Marine ecosystems and has superior environmental friendly properties. This feature makes Sea-Nine® 211N a more environmentally friendly option. As a result, the product was awarded the U.S. President's Green Chemistry Challenge Award.

Preventol® O Extra is another multifunctional fungicide developed by LANXESS, whose active ingredient is o-phenylphenol (OPP). This broad spectrum fungicide is effective against bacteria, yeast, fungi, and enveloped viruses, making it suitable for a wide range of applications. It is commonly used as a disinfectant in hospitals, clinics, industries, institutions, stables and sheds. Preventol® O Extra is also formulated as a multi-purpose disinfectant and liquid soap and is used to protect a variety of water-based products such as adhesives, adhesive dispersions, concrete additives, filler suspensions, pigment slurries and textile printing thickeners. It is also used for anti-corrosion protection of blue wet skin during leather manufacturing and post-harvest preservation aid for citrus fruits. In addition, it is an important functional monomer for the synthesis of novel halogen-free flame retardants in polymer materials, and plays a key role in the production and manufacture of high-performance optical materials.

Innovation in the Asia-Pacific region

The establishment of LANXESS Asia Pacific Application Development Center reflects the company's rapid response and strategic adaptation to the changing needs of China and the Asia Pacific market. In 2022, the Material Protection Products Business Unit (MPP) joined the Asia Pacific Application Development Center and invested in the construction of a professional microbiology laboratory. This enables LANXESS to develop relevant technologies and products in a timely manner for the specific needs of the Asia-Pacific market.

"The establishment of the Microbiology Lab within the Asia Pacific Application Center is an important milestone for us," said Gu. "It enables us to better meet the demand for specialized, localized products and value-added goods in China and the Asia Pacific region, demonstrating our relentless pursuit of innovation and strong commitment to our customers."
