Lubrizol® announced the launch of its new Lubrizol® PV1119 additive technology to provide the necessary low-speed pre-ignition (LSPI) and chain premature wear protection for modern engines. Given the devastating impact of LSPI and chain wear on gasoline direct injection (GDI) and turbocharged GDI (TGDI) engines, and the lack of a specification for the significant delay in the ILSAC GF-6 specification, the next major passenger vehicle engine oil specification, Lubrizol recognized the need for a solution based on the existing GF-5 specification. The Lubrizol PV1119 is the result of close collaboration with OEMs worldwide to address this market need.
PV1119 is the first additive technology to provide the necessary LSPI and chain wear protection while meeting the fuel economy and durability requirements of the GF-5 specification.PV1119 offers significant operational advantages by maintaining stick-index interchangeability and a wide base oil application range; and by leveraging Lubrizol's supply and production advantages, oil marketers can rapidly commercialize the improved formulations required by end users.
One of the key features of this new technology is the proven LSPI protection provided throughout the oil change interval, which is highly attractive to OEMs. OEMs have made it clear that they need reliable lubricant solutions to address both LSPI and chain wear. Lubrizol is the first company to develop this technology, which enables lubricant marketers to quickly meet critical market demands with fully licensed high performance formulations.
